Crooked Letter

Crooked Letter is built on a simple belief: Mississippi has some of the most talented and creative artisans in the country. Every item on our shelves is Mississippi-made—built, carved, forged, designed, cooked, painted, stitched, or written by local hands. The store carries a wide variety of goods, but each one shares the same foundation of ever-deepening Mississippi roots.

Founded in 2017 by lifelong Mississippian Debbie Mathis, Crooked Letter planted itself in the heart of Downtown Meridian, a historic hub of railways, music, and culture. As Debbie turned toward new ventures, she entrusted the business to her son Noah and his wife Kylie, who carry forward her original vision while adding their own energy and perspective. The result is a store that honors its past while pursuing a bright future, striving toward its goal of connecting Mississippi makers with audiences near and far.

Against the odds faced by many small businesses, Crooked Letter has endured and grown, thanks in no small part to a community that values authenticity, craftsmanship, and connection. Every sale directly supports local vendors, whose creativity keeps the store brimming with originality and heart. The shop itself has become a reflection of its people: resilient, generous, hospitable, and deeply rooted in place.

Crooked Letter is more than a retail space; it is a celebration of Mississippi artistry and community spirit. With each passing year, the store continues to showcase the best of what the Magnolia State can produce, honoring its makers while building something lasting for the future.
